Art Talk – Exploring Michelangelo’s David

The lecture focuses on Michelangelo's iconic work, David, one of the most celebrated symbols of the Italian Renaissance. Throughout the presentation, various artistic, historical, and cultural dimensions of this monumental sculpture will be explored, considered as one of the cornerstones of Western art.

This presentation will be conducted in Italian and last approximately 60 minutes, then there will be time at the end to ask questions and share your thoughts, using specific art-related vocabulary that will be shared.

The presentation will be projected on a screen together with photos and pictures.

Your Speaker - Elisabetta Brogi is a native of Florence, where she studied History and Art. With a background as a painter, art restorer, and certified tourist guide, Elisabetta's passion for history and art shines through in her engaging talks.

Concerto di Alberto Pizzo

Il compositore e pianista Alberto Pizzo si esibisce in concerto all’Istituto Italiano di Cultura San Francisco in un programma che comprende brani di sua composizione, e arrangiamenti di musiche di Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone e Astor Piazzolla.

Evento organizzato sotto gli auspici del Consolato Generale d’Italia a San Francisco.

ALBERTO PIZZO
Virtuosismo straordinario, tecnica superba. Lo stile ‘crossover’, originalissimo e unico del Maestro Alberto Pizzo viene coltivato fin da giovanissimo attraverso lo studio della musica classica e napoletana. Il suo background ha dato una spinta notevole alla sua passione e alla capacità di spaziare tra gli stili: classica, jazz, fusion e pop si fondono nelle sue mani.
La sua particolarità sta nell’estrema semplicità e naturalezza nel passare dal barocco alla colonna sonora, dal tango alla canzone napoletana, così come nelle sue interpretazioni si ritrova Debussy in Torna a Surriento e Scarlatti emerge nel pezzo jazz.

La melodia è l’essenza delle sue composizioni mentre il virtuosismo predomina nelle sue rielaborazioni. Ascoltare la sua musica ad occhi chiusi porta naturalmente a immaginare scene o immagini in movimento ed è quindi per sua stessa natura perfetto come commento ad opere cinematografiche o importanti documentari.

Ha collaborato con artisti italiani e internazionali (Bacalov, Bollani, Rea, Marcotulli, Mino Cinelu, Toquinho, Arbore, Knopfler, London Symphony Orchestra) e suonato al Blue Note Jazz Festival di New York, al Ravello Festival, alla Casa del Jazz di Roma, al Festival dei due Mondi di Spoleto, sul Main stage di Piano City Milano, al Dalsong Festival di Daegu nel Sud Corea, all’Outside Music Festival di Brandeburgo.

Alberto Pizzo è uno degli artisti Yamaha Europe ed è stato il primo artista straniero a firmare un contratto con Yamaha Entertainment Japan nel 2018 e ad unirsi al loro roster. Più recentemente, all’inizio di settembre 2023, ha vinto il Primo Premio Assoluto del ‘Ibra Grande Award Japan Competition.’

A lecture about Venice, its culture, history and ecological problems
 of today. Presented by Prof. Elisabeth Carroll

Dr. Elizabeth Carroll will share her insider's perspective of Venice as a former resident of la città lagunare. She will connect the past to present-day Venice and share her experiences as a scholar, student, and mother having lived in this majestic city. Venice is a place of immense complexity impacted by tourism and climate change. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University and directs a summer Faculty-Led Program in Venice.
