Support Comites campaign for 2016 Italy earthquake

On August 24, 2016, central Italy was shaken by a terrible earthquake which has caused the death of 292 people.  Many of them were children caught at home in the middle of the night.
It has afflicted the most vulnerable regions in the Appennini mountains, small towns with buildings dated over 500 years. This is the Italy that we all love for its food, arts and history. But history comes with a cost, which those families have paid dearly. Most of them are safe but terrified. They have been living outdoors since the first earthquake and now that most of the towns are totally destroyed they are getting very discouraged.  We have spoken to several survivors.  Many are elderly people,  living on a small government pension, without the means to afford and rebuild a new house.

Every day there are new tremors, some as high as 5.5. The very few schools in the area have been severely affected and kids are now home.

The Committee of the Italian Residents Abroad of San Francisco ( COMITES)  a government volunteer organization with members elected by the Italian citizens abroad  is extending an invitation to all lovers of Italy to donate any amount to the three  towns that were afflicted the most: Accumuli, Amatrice and Arquata del Tronto.

If you live in an earthquake-prone area, like California, you probably know the feeling. Losing a dear one in the rubble is something that nobody should ever experience.

For those of us who want to contribute to the earthquake relief efforts for Central Italy an online campaign has been launched online.  100% of your donation is tax-deductible and will be fully forwarded from the COMITES directly to the account of the towns.
